CMRP Practice Exam Prep: Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional

The ideal target for planned maintenance work in a maintenance program is often set at 85%. This benchmark represents a strong balance between proactive maintenance planning and the necessary responsiveness to unplanned events or failures.

When approximately 85% of maintenance activities are planned, organizations can optimize their resources, schedule maintenance during less impactful times, and enhance overall productivity. This high level of planned maintenance contributes to improved equipment reliability and the prevention of unexpected breakdowns, which can lead to costly downtime. Additionally, achieving this target allows maintenance teams to better allocate their efforts to predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, which ultimately drive efficiency and performance in asset management.

Setting the target at 85% also supports a culture of continuous improvement, allowing for regular evaluation and adjustments to maintenance practices as needed. It strikes a balance that provides a roadmap for maintaining operational effectiveness while being flexible enough to address urgent repair needs that may arise.
